1983 Fonseca Vintage Port

Post by Steve Saxon »

Since we are having a cool holiday weekend in the Northwest, what could better than a nice port.

I opened it about 12:30 pm and was very surprised to fine that it was ready to drink. A big nose, with frim tannins, nice plum, rasin and blackberry and decent finish. Still though I thought 5 hours in the decanter would help it even more. I was wrong.... The nose diminished dramaticly, and the fruit changed to a more rasin flavor. I scored it 90 points, but my buddy David thought more of it and gave it 93 points. But we both agreed it was a better wine when first opened.

Steve,

If you've got any left over, I'd be very interested to know what you think of this wine the next day.

Alex,
Perhaps a little less alcohol but otherwise no change. A nice wine that went well with Stilton blue cheese and pears.

I posted on this wine a couple of months back. I have similar notes and impressions. I think it is a fine Fonseca and I have 15 bottles left, I am happy to say.
