Anybody tasted Ferreira 1982 VP lately?
Has anybody tasted this lately? I have opportunity to purchase it for 40€ which seems quite good deal

I had to look back to Ferreira verticals of which I participated in 1997 and 2001. In both cases, my TNs on the 1982 were not positive with one comment, "why did they bottle this vintage" from my latter tasting. Sorry.

One of the VP I had numerous time over the last 5 years. I really appreciated all of them except maybe 2, one in 2003 and one just last month that was dead, but I think it was mainly for cellaring problem.
Appart from that I always had pleasure drinking this Port, the one I had in september 2005 was great, still lots of fruits, good depth and complexity and that floral nose so remiscent of Ferreira. Broadbent describes it a one of the best 82 and I would not disagree.

Fred,
Have you had ANY 1982 Vintage Port that you believe is worthy of 90 points?

I'm not sure what good value is in Finland, as I don't know how much tax you pay on wine, but '82 is generally a vintage to avoid.
Broadbent is just about the only observer to give decent ratings to this year, which ruined the reputations of several shippers.
For the same money I could airmail you a bottle of Offley '83 - which I can vouch for!

Antti, I've tried it several times as it is one of the few mature wines available in our pathetic monopoly. I've thought it always either good or ok - never bad - and considering Finnish pricing in general, good value. If Roy doesn't mind a shameless plug, I've got a couple TNs (in Finnish) on my web site.
Tom, I'll happily buy the Offley off you for that price!

Otto,
Since you are a regular here, I have no issues with you having someone read your TN in another language. I would appreciate you posting it here in English too, for folks to see your opinion of this wine. Thanks!

Otto,
I will happily airmail you a bottle of the Offley '83 - 40 euros currently converts to £27.45 sterling - I can put a credit card payment through my company.
As we are all part of the eu and this is for your personal consumption, I believe there should be no issue with customs at your end - but please check!
I will send the bottle in a polystyrene bottle box, taped and wrapped, by standard airmail. Alternatively there is a premium service called Airsure, but that costs an extra £4.20.
PM me with your address and card details if you want to go ahead.

Ok, here are the translations from Finnish (slightly modified - you don't need all my ramblingsRoy Hersh wrote: Since you are a regular here, I have no issues with you having someone read your TN in another language. From 2.9.2004: Decanted only 1½ hours before starting to drink. The room was too dark to note colour. The nose has admirable depth for a weak year wine with plenty of figs, raisins, chocolate and coffee. The palate is very sweet, softly tannic, rather well extracted, and moderately long, pleasant but not complex - but the alcohol comes through, i.e. 1½ hours decanting wasn't enough.
From 2.8.2005: Upon opening the nose was primarily fruity. Soon afterwards the nose became frightfully alcoholic. After an hour, there came leathery aromas alongside the usual suspects of figs, etc.. After about 3 hours we started drinking the bottle (and continued drinking it over 4 hours): unsweetened coco, raisins, figs, a slight saltiness and even some leafyness. The palate, as always with Ferreira, is very sweet, but unfortunately though fine on the nose, the alcohol comes through on the palate even after 7 hours. Would apparently have needed an even longer decating.
Tom, PM being sent!
Otto
Oops, I really should visit here more often! Tom, how many bottles of Offley you can sell?
Or does that matter ar all - maybe we can share that Offley anyway, I can bring something from my cellar and we can taste both bottles.. What do you think Otto?
And yes, there is really no VP's available in Finland. That's why we must discover every opportunity.. Usually I order my bottles from Germany, UK or The Netherlands, via post or via business colleagues. Thus it really needs dedication to be Port Connoisseur in here! 8)
