Quinta Nova 2006 LBV question.

Post by Bob Parsons Alberta »

What is the general concensus here about LBVs from `06 vintage? Thank you in anticipation.

The only '06 LBV I've had was Graham's, and it was a big disappointment. Lots of heat, not much else. Nowhere near '05 or '03.

The Quinta do Crasto 2006 LBV is very nice. Tasted both in Portugal, and purchased three bottles here (all gone). Better than many vintage ports and actually better than f ex Crasto LBV 2003.

As few houses produced a VP in 2006, mostly smaller SQVP's with very few exceptions, the declassified juice that became LBV's for lots of the more mainstream producers had the best quality and there are some fine examples that have and will continue to reach the market over the next few months. I still think 2005 was a pretty fine year for LBV's and of course 2003's were rather exceptional too ... as a generalization.
