Woops, I ticked the wrong box (my vote should have been in the 250-499 (big category by the way) box, I've ticked the 500-649 box by mistake.
The actual number of bottles is 271 (of which 209 are VP's).

Crikey - hadn't added them up in years. 13 1/2 cases and I probably go through less than a half case a year. Must apply myself!

Physical bottles, in my case. But as it turns out, I have 10 magnums, 18 375s, and 2 500s which means that I have 348.33 750 ml bottles by volume.

Eric,
Very simple.
Magnums = 2 bottles
375 ml = .5 bottles
500 ml= .67 bottles
I'll let you figure out the rest.

So how many do you own Roy?
I think I'm somewhere around 120 bottles, only 2 of which are 375 ml bottles I own no magnums ....yet. I only bought my first one in August 2010.

Given my age, I had let my consumption catch up with my collection the past three years. But in 2011, I changed that pattern and bought a bunch again (not as much as I did DOC wines from the Douro, but enough). Between cellars, in total I believe there are somewhere in the 73-75 case range which given my consumption pattern and what I plan to leave for my daughter's future drinking pleasure ... is the right amount for me at this stage in life. I said that I'd stop buying when 2000 was released, but bought a couple of cases in 2003/2007 and definitely when 2011's are released, I will add in small quantities of carefully chosen favorites for my daughter to have. She just turned 9 but has been exposed to Vintage Port since she was 3 weeks old, decanting on her own by the time she was 28 months and taking small sips since, well, I better not put that in print.

In my life, I've only owned 7 bottles of Madeira. Three have been opened and drunk, 4 remain unopened and wait for the right time.
I'll probably open the oldest in a couple of years, when I am 50, and the others when I run out of port.
I am such a port-addict - and then only VP. Not the brown, sticky stuff that Glen likes! Give me reductive ageing any time!

I don't think I have ever owned a bottle of Madeira.

You might as well give them to me now

Interesting although not surprising results so far:
70% of the 46 respondents have under 250 bottles, while 83% have less than 500 bottles in their collection.

99 VP's + lot's of Colheita's and LBV's should bring me to approx 220 bottles.
My goal is to get 2 VP's for each bottle I open just to make sure that my collection of VP's expands :)

Under 50 because of bottles already kept aside for Christmas and New Year's Eve, and also because some of them are going to be Christmas gifts.
Mental note: "stop giving away Port for Christmas" :)
