For Christmas, finish off the Kopke 1994 colheita and maybe open a 79 colheita.

For new year's eve, i'll open a Barros colheita 1968 and also a bottle of 1912 Madeira Wine, from Companhia Exportadora da Madeira.
Roy, can you advise me how many hours to decant this one? Bottle shows little sediment, i don't know if the wine is still good, because the level dropped a bit.

This will be the first xmas since 2006 that I won't open a bottle of Port .
Instead a bottle of " fine old Tokay ".

I have a 1970 Taylor standing up for duty with Christmas dinner, along with Kopke and Noval 40-yr olds standing by for whenever else anyone wants some Port. Beyond those I'll probably fall back to my cellar defenders - 3 x 2003 Taylor LBV and 1 x 2005 Taylor LBV - or possibly a 1997 Quinta do Tedo or a 1985 Churchill.

The family is only going to be here 4 days, though, so we probably won't end up opening more than 2-3 bottles in total. They're not big Port drinkers... just sippers.

We have guests coming tonight and tomorrow. For tonight, the youngster of the two, a 1980 Gould Campbell to provide an understanding of what a fine young Vintage Port can deliver. I doubt our guests will "get" that a 31 year old VP should truly be considered a youngster, but that will allow me to change their opinion tomorrow night.

Since not much family drinks Port and since I'll be doing some driving, I won't have more than one or two glasses of wine tomorrow. So I decanted a 1990 Quinta do Vesuvio VP for later tonight...which will have to wait a little longer tonight since a friend just called and needed an emergency ride to the airport this evening.

So far this Christmas, I have opened and finished a Tesco BOB 1994 VP and a half bottle of Croft 2004 LBV. I've also drunk a really nasty miniature bottle of Marks & Spencer BOB Finest Reserve Tawny - that name is very misleading!
