Collectively how many bottles of "The Legend" do we have? How did we acquire it? When? Let's be candid: how much did we pay for it?
I'll tell my story about my 1802.
This could be interesting. We may as a group have the largest number of 1802 in the whole wide world! The largest number until one
of our crafty merchants friends from Madeira decide to do a new bottling.

Here's the rest of the story

Was given two by a friend ( man of means...) who purchased a case (i think) at the 1989 Christie's sale.
Both gone now. Rare experiences.
Bought one from Turville three years ago. Asking price was 1,800 pounds plus 15% vat. Haggled, begged, cried (not a pretty picture) and
got the price down to 1,100 pounds.
that's it.

Thank you Roy. Based on a Tsunami-like wave of interest from forum members this must have been a great thread.....
However i will shelve for awhile my plan to talk about the 1789 Madeira Cama de Lobos (Rutheford&Miles). It's a shame.... good story....
Let's move now in the filet mignon of the matter: your friend and his treasure trove of 1802's. I will write to him. Go through the synopsis
of 'A Christmas Carol', the joy of giving, the greater joy of giving generously, the ultimate joy of giving to a man who will appreciate
the gift and enjoy it. It this does not weaken his hoarding habit, i will resort to the ultimate weapon: 'if you don't want to do it for Roy then
do it for Taylor. Is it not time to give the opportunity to a delightful young lady, who is already well grounded in Port knowledge a major
meeting with a great Madeira. Don't send one 1802 but two as one bottle could be faulty'. I'm sure that at this point he will be on his knees,
tear in his eyes, begging for forgiveness and send you three bottles. Three, let's never forget, is a lucky number.
This will be your 'Christmas Carol' Roy!

Wish I had ten. I've only one bottle bought at auction a few years ago.

I have 4 bottles. First bought at a wineshop in California, delivered to my hotel in Chicago. Believe $ 800... In 2001.

In 2002 I bought 3 from a private collector in Denmark for a total of about $ 1.700 todays rate from DKK. I was lucky
to bring to Norway. I came to Copenhagen airport from Singapore, went out, brought cash and got the bottles and in again
for flight to Oslo...

Wish soon we can bring bottles in handluggage again...

I knew, Reidar, that you were a major stock holder but not the Chairman of the 1802 Board! Savvy Scandinavian buying! Congratulations.
If and when the GTT (Great Terrantez tasting) takes place it is heart warming to know that one potential participant is in a position to bring more than just one bottle of the O.A. 02......
All we need now is for the mysterious 'MR. 10' to show his colours.

Well at least we know where a total of 20 bottles of this gem are located.

I 'had' one - consumed in 2002 (of course).
Bought at Christie's (along with the 1832 which I still have).
This was one of my few disappointments (concerning Madeira) - somehow I expected more, but that bottle didn't wow, so I've avoided the Aciaioly bottlings ever since.
But I KNOW others have had better experiences.

Two quick asides:

a. I've learned that the 1789 T that Philippe mentioned above was supposedly the same juice as the 1795 Barbeito; if I have my facts straight.

b. I know of an individual who had purchased a fairly large cache of 1802 Acciaioly (I believe, but am not positive it was 9 bottles). They were won at auction but when shipped over to the USA, they never actually made it into the buyers hands. It was a heartbreaking and frustrating time. I can't even imagine.
