Ladies and gents, please do use this thread for discussion of your events and what they will entail and where they will occur. Hopefully we can help you to drive traffic to your events.

As you know, Glenn Elliott and I are hosting one on #PortDay here locally, billed as Pot Luck and Port. I hope to read of many other!!! They can be small, or as big as you'd like. The important thing is for everyone here to blast this out on Facebook and Twitter etc. to spread the work of Port!

Now that I know about it, it looks like "Port Day" will have to go on my calendar for next year.

This gives me a year to gather a list of Port-Heads in the area for a party.

I do not think the organizers have thought this out that far in advance to be honest. I will be speaking to the people that came up with the idea early next week and shall see what I can find out. My real mission now is to get deeper into what can be done to protect the name of Port although I realize that it will be an uphill battle.

I thought that the major regions that produce fortified port-like wines (USA and Australia mainly) had agreed that the name Port belongs to the Douro. Are there other significant producing countries that don't accept this? Am I wrong about USA and Australia?

If it hasn't been decided yet, I would think that having it set as a Friday (or even Saturday) would be logical. At least in the US, going out on a Friday or Saturday night is a well established pattern, so don't fight the pattern, USE it.

It's amazing how quickly a year goes by... I can't believe that it's nearly a year already since #PortDay 2012. Somehow I have the feeling that this thing was a one-day-wonder - which is sad. I liked Phyllis' idea of having the PortDay every year on the last Friday of January... The Center for Wine Origins seem to have gone the way of the dodo. But to be honest: Do we need their input and support? I don't think so... I think the passion in the FTLOP community is so strong that we should be able to really make this an annual event! We are spread over so many countries and cities, and we have all the social media available to support this cause... It doesn't need to be some really big and well organized event... Just invite a few people to your house, let them have a White, a Ruby and a Tawny, show them a few photos on the TV from the Douro and they will be fascinated... :) We here have a much larger multiplicator-effect than the Center for Wine Origins...
