Yeah that's about the best price you can hope for these days. Any more left? PM me... I can always use more of those!
sorry there was just one :(

Hi,
Can anybody tell me where it's best to purchase portwine in Lisbon (unfortunately I won't be in Porto)? I am looking for 30-40 year old tawnys (quinta do noval etc.) and colheitas. Is there a place in Lisbon where those portwines can be tasted?

I found a wine shop in lisbon which is having a selection of some 30 and 40 year old tawnys. Which one's would you recommend?

Thanks for you help! :thanks:

The best selection will be found in Garrafeira Nacional https://www.garrafeiranacional.com/ and Garrafeira de Campo de Ourique http://garrafeiracampodeourique.blogspot.com/.

Unless a specific promotion is happening at the time, you will not be able to taste though.

To taste, the best place in Lisbon is probably this IVDP run place:

Solar do Vinho do Porto - Lisboa
Rua de S. Pedro de Alcântara, 45

You probably won't find great bargains there. I've in fact bought wine in your back yard where prices were better at Zweifel.

I plan to place that exact order some time this year, but this week was caught up in an auction and spent my budget there:

Yeah, if ur looking for Dalva Portwines, Zweifel is without a doubt the best place to buy them. Eric, what are ur favorite 30-40 year old tawnys?

That's really a better question for Glenn, as I've liked the few and all 30 and 40s I've had, without distinct favorites. If you can find it, you should try the S.Leonardo 30.

The S. Leonardo 30-yr old is indeed one of the best 30s available. It is my favorite, but I haven't actually had that many different 30-yr olds and they've all been excellent. I've even had a Niepoort 30-yr old that had 20+ years of bottle age and that was pretty nice, too.

My favorite 40-yr old is Quinta da Romaneira's, but I also really like the Kopke and the Quinta do Noval. I've only ever had one 40-yr old that I didn't think was great... you almost can't go wrong in the 30-40 yr categories.

Thanks Glenn, your information is really helpful.
The S. Leonardo 30yr (110 USD) and de Quinta da Romaneira's 40yr (140 USD) are even being sold in Switzerland!! 8--)
As I will be in Lisbon from tomorrow on, the Kopke White 30yr (EUR 62.70 for .375l) and the Dow's 30yr(EUR 58.-- good price-value!??) offered at Garrafeira Nacional in Lisbon caught my attention.
Glenn, did you have the Kopke white or the regular one?

I have not had the chance to try the Kopke 30-yr old White. Some day I would like to! Kopke makes an entire lineup of 10, 20, 30, and 40-yr old White Ports that I'd like to taste some day.

I have only tried the Kopke 30-yr old Tawny once that I can remember. It was excellent, but I thought it was a little bit too bright for my taste. It has a lot of acidity. If you like that kind of Port, though, then you should give it a try.

The `05 Dow`s LBV was $24 Cdn, but I also spotted the `06. Roy think the `05 is a better buy at this time.
The `07 Sandeman LBV was close by, any thoughts on this one?

Not a Port purchase, but I just ordered a new Eurocave free-standing wine cellar. Can't wait for it to arrive ... I have been out of space for a while, now. This should give me space for an additional 120 to 150 bottles (depending on the formats) once I put in my current overflow.
