Post by Eric Menchen »

Today is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens. So what Port did brothers Charles and Ned drink in Nicholas Nickleby?

I believe the answer is "Dixon's Double Diamond 10 year Tawny".

Get me a magnum of that as well :-)

Cheers.
All wine would be port if it could...

You are correct sir. And who made that then, and who makes it now?

Not sure but think it used to be Morgan bros and today is Silchester Cellars. Correct?

You are correct on Morgan. I think Silchester is just an importer or seller, and that Taylor makes it today, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I have something in the back of my mind that says the Dixon brand has been recently revived by a new shipper. I need to do some research through my notes of a couple of years ago...

Silchester Cellars appear to own the Dixon brand.

Just found my notes - it was Maynard's that was the old British brand that was revived a couple of years ago by Tiago Trigo and the Van Zellers.
