Anybody tried their Quevedo single varietal sampler set yet?

Post by Marco D. »

I've been waiting for an occasion to open mine (wish I had two sets)... maybe in the fall. We should post our recommended blends...

I've had one of mine poised to go for a long time but haven't had the chance. Was hoping to sometime soon and thought this sunday it may finally happen, but plans look like they've changed so it'll have to wait a bit longer.

As a matter of fact, Roy and I tasted through mine on Wednesday. I plan to write him a guest corner article for a future newsletter on 'em.

Unfortunately we have one small thing to resolve before I can write the article, so it is probably going to have to wait until after Roy returns from the Harvest Tour in October now. I got some great information about the harvest from Oscar to go along with our experience with the samples, so I hope I can pull off a good article!

Is it worth trying my set now, or should I leave them for a few years?

I have already gone through two sets. I see NO good reason to wait, to be honest.

I agree with Roy. While it would in theory be fun to see how they age, the corks don't look like they're intended for long-term storage. They're tiny.

I actually planned on keeping mine for another couple of years having seen the current reviews.
Would be interesting to see the differences in aging between the different varieties.

Considering these were hand bottled and not really designed for cellaring, I'd be inclined to advise trying them earlier rather than later. As pointed out, the corks are TINY and I wouldn't trust them to keep everything super sound for any long length of time.

It been a while since the last post on this topic... Anybody else go through their set?

Is there a FTLOP newsletter article upcoming on this? I thought Glenn was writing one up?

Cheers

Unfortunately at this point I'd want to re-visit the samples before writing the article. I do have a sampler saved for that purpose, but haven't thought about when or where to open it.

Sorry for letting it fall off the radar!
