2007 Niepoort LBV Port
bottled in 2011
standard cork
no sediment
Bought at Istanbul airport
"Decanted" in half-full bottle since yesterday.
Very dark red colour, red rim.
Nose of dark ripe berries, spirity
Palate: Very dark fruit; sweet; smooth but powerful tannins; strong acids, not perfectly balanced; young; some spirits; cherry stone; dry oak; not very complex.
Medium body
Finish: medium, with dry oak
Overall: It definetly tastes like a niepoort. Strong tannins and fruitforward. However, its not their greatest ive tasted, it left me a bit wanting something more: More fruit, less dry, more finish. I think i would have enjoyed it more with longer decant, a day or two of more airing in the half-full bottle. Juicy and tasty though.
I'll give it 87 points.

I liked this a bit better than you and thought it very nice the one time I had it. The bottle I had showed lots of fruit, chocolate, and good complexity. I will agree this needs a good long decant or leave it in the cellar a couple more years. And while not up to the 2003 version, this wasn't too far behind IMO.
