Epic 1982 Bordeaux Tasting

I was honored and grateful to have received an invitation to attend this monumental afternoon into evening of Claret madness. The host, Mark Taylor was so generous to pull all but one of these bottles from his cellar. 18 of the greatest 1982 Bordeaux one can ever hope to live long enough to taste, no less at one sitting. Then remarkably, we had a brilliant flight of Burgundy too. Dinner was splendid in this art gallery known as the Taylor home (nothing to do with the Port shipper). I did not want to break out something so crazy that it would seem like I was trying to upstage the event, so the 1952 Dalva Golden White was the last wine to touch our lips that night and it showed very well, but was merely an afterthought in the presence of these legendary bottles of Bordeaux.

Lots of luminaries around the table and it was a privilege to drink with these gentlemen; all invited for their particular niche in the wine world. [notworthy.gif]

Very impressive indeed! :winebath: I'm a little jealous, but glad to see the report. No Sauternes?

My question is withdrawn. The potentially fine harvest of Sauternes in 1982 was mostly washed out by heavy October rain.

There is no direct correlation between the red Bdx and white dessert wines from the region. It is not often that great years are the same, historically speaking. Sometimes they do overlap, but that is more of a coincidence, for the most part.
