Things are a little different now, there have been some tempting deals around that I have not been able to resist:

1963 - 174
1997 - 103
1994 - 71

The jump in 1997 is partly explained by 2 cases of Smith Woodhouse @ £8 per bottle - what a great price that was!
I'd forgotten this thread. Eric - thanks for bringing it back. It's my only record of how my port cellar has changed over the years.

Now - as at 1/31/11 - my top three vintages are:
1963 - 234
1994 - 168
1997 - 153

The numbers will start to go down now. I'm doing more drinking than buying these days. :winebath:

1964: 30 - my birth year. I have 1 VP, 3 SQVP, and 26 Colheitas
1994: 26 - nearly the opposite of 1964, there are only 3 Colheitas in this bunch
2003: 19 - all VP, and 5 are magnums
1985: 16 - all VP
1977: 14 - 8 VP, 6 Colheita
Yeah Eric, thanks for digging this one up again! My how my cellar has changed, and even during a period of relatively low purchasing.

2003: 55 - includes 14 LBVs and 5 magnums (which I counted as 10 bottles)
1985: 45 - I've acquired a fairly broad horizontal for this year which accounts for 24 of the 45 bottles.
1994: 33 - in looking at CellarTracker, I can't figure out where the 7-bottle growth came from.
1964: 29 - 2 years have passed... drank 2 bottles, but added a 1964 Warre's Reserve.
1997: 20 - the addition of a 6-pack of Vesuvio was the big change here
2007: 17 - all VP, of course
1977: 16 - 9 VP, 7 Colheita

Very impressive gentlemen. [notworthy.gif]

I feel like such an amateur looking at that!! wow...

25 2007's
20 2003's
15 2000's
10 1994's (all taylors and fonseca's!!)
6 2001's (all Quinta de Roriz)
2 2005's
2 1995's (just purchased cohleitas...only Cohleita's I have...they will be my first taste of Cohleita ever - Quinta do Noval.I hope they do not disappoint)
1 1998
1 1997 (with two mags on the way care of FTLOP buying op a few months ago...)

82 bottles plus a couple tawnies...not bad from around 20 bottles pre cellar construction this time last year....good provenance always important so I tend to lean towards buying young so I can see the 2007's growing over the next year still faster than others, with some 94's to drink perhaps.... 2000 is still number one, with 34 bottles, followed by 1995 (20 bottles), 2003, 1994 and 1977 (all 17 bottles). The total number of vintage ports in the cellar is 175, merely 40% of the total cellar.
The current top 5:

1. 2000 (47 bottles)
2. 2007 (27 bottles)
3. 1995 (25 bottles)
4. 1994 (17 bottles)
5. 2003 (16 bottles)

The total number of bottles of port is 253, which accounts for 43% of the total collection

The two vintages which lead (by far) are:

2005: 83 bottles (oldest son's birthyear)
2007: 72 bottles (youngest son's birthyear)
2000: 12 bottles (to show the difference between no's 1, 2 and 3.

I've a total of 225 bottles of VP (oldest being 1977) and a total of 278 bottles of Port. This is about 35% of my cellar ( , this is more that I thougt! I need to find a way to restrain myself a little I fear [dash1.gif] )

Nice thread. After checking my cellar, I haver come up with a top 5:

2000 (52)
2007 (39)
1997 (38)
2003 (36)
1994 (34)

So the youngsters certainly do dominate.

As the year comes to an end, I start to think about whether I need to do rebalancing of the retirement portfolio. That includes financial investments as well as the cellar.

1994 has once again taken the lead, with 2003 in second. I'm fine with both of those. I may have overbought 2007, now in third, but a bunch of those are Noval Silval, which I expect to be an earlier drinker, so I may be o.k. 1997 has fallen into fourth. Given recent discussions about the vintage, that should be o.k., and I've got some 1997 Noval and Noval Nacional for anniversary celebrating. Looking forward, I'll need to get a little more 2009 in the spring, and after that older bottles for ready drinking. I'd like to get some 1970 Fonseca, but haven't targeted anything else older. I'll just keep my eyes open.

Almost a year on from my previous post, I thought I'd dig out my current top 3 vintages as at the end of the year. These were:
1963 - 261 (building up stock in advance of 2013)
1994 - 175
1977 - 161

I also still have 153 bottles of 1997 vintage port, but that vintage is now pipped into 4th place.

1985 - not becuase it is my favourite vintage, but because i have picked up a number of good drinkers at £25-30 per bottle. Since these are reliable, have a bit of bottle age, and in a lot of cases appear quite mature already, they tend to be the ones i take to dinner parties or open with non-aficionados.

94s are reasonably close behind, and mostly held in long term storage.

2000 by far, this was the first declared vintage after I discouvered port, so I bought most en primeur. 2003 makes a good second place, 1994 a third place.
I still try to backfill my cellar, but unfortunately it's not easy in the Netherlands to find reasonable priced older VP's.

Well it looks as though I still have far more '55 than any other vintage. In second place is 1963 closely followed by 1994. Interestingly, I really haven't added much '77 in the past few years and given that 1977 was in second place it has now dropped to fith place. Much of my recent purchases have been from the 60's as well as the 80's.
