Colheita ownership

Post by Roy Hersh »

What is/are the oldest bottles of Colheita you own. Please mention both vintage and producer of your great ones.

In the cellar: a Wiese & Krohn 1900 (1972 bottling) - it will be drunk soon.
Ordered, but not yet received: Qta. d. Loureiro 1871 (unknown bottling date) - the first bottle was amazing; I'd like to keep this one for another couple of years.

My oldest is a Niepoort 1957 - I'm sure Roy will agree this was a great year

My oldest is a Nieeport 1994 (as yet untasted). Clearly I'll have to try some older ones soon. The Krohn's are readily available near me back to 1958, for (I think) reasonable prices. But except for the single Niepoort, I have not seen another Niepoort or any Kopke for sale.

Burmester 1987 - bottled in 2003. This one was a bargain (IIRC ablut 10-12$/bot.) and I find it terrific. I'd like to try some older ones, but I don't have the finances...yet.

Right now I'm a bit low on Colheita, I have only a few from Niepoort and Noval and the oldest one is a 79 from Niepoort bottled in 2000.

My oldest is a Burmester 1900 I don't tend to keep colhietas,I buy and then drink them  usually single bottle purchases rather than cases.
Nikolaj is right about the Burmester colhietas cheap and in my humble opinion stands shoulders and neck above your supermarket lbv's.
It's a pity their hard to find in the UK.I have to import mine from Europe.
I believe Amorins have sold the brand of Burmester to the spanish recently but they still own the farms and now go under the name of Quinta de Nossa Senhora do Carmo.

Colheitas

Post by Kurt Wieneke »

I have previously drunk the 1977 Kopke, 1963 Calem Quinta da Foz, and 1983 Niepoort, and 1988 Rocha. I'm currently sitting on 1963 Offley Baron de Forrester and 1985 Offley Baron de Forrester. A sad state of affairs really. . . I need to buy more colheitas!

I love Colheitas and have a special love for the all too few Niepoorts I've tasted. But I unfortunately own zero. I've been tempted to buy the Noval 1986 we have here, but it's been in a few tastings and hasn't really impressed me. But the competition has been tough so I should try it on its own.

Yum! I had this last winter. It was quite impressive, though the older Colheitas 86 and especially the 79 were arguably more interesting.
