What Port to open to "celebrate' 1st Anniv. of FTLOP?

Post by Roy Hersh »

This weekend, is the first Anniversary of FOR THE LOVE OF PORT. I am trying to decide which Port to open with my wife to celebrate this occasion. But I don't like to party alone.

So what are YOU going to open to celebrate?

2003 Vesuvio, as previous postings on the forum about this port have encouraged me to try a young VP for the first time.

It is too hot and humid for me to enjoy a VP so I'll be having a chilled Taylor LBV 2000

We have now had 3 weeks of 28 to 35 Celcius in the UK and I think this is the 3rd year in a row we have had this so I'm thinking of having some Aircon installed in the house. I should be able to have something a bit more special for the 2nd Birthday 8)

Thanks for the heads up, Roy. In gesture, I think I will go ahead and open up a 1983 Delaforce LBV that I recently found.

Ramos-Pinto, Vintage 2003.

Too young, I know
but I plan to show a few friends here what a young VP tastes like  :D ....
... and, BTW, this wine might also have been bottled precisely one year ago

Next up on my drinking list is a Smith Woodhouse '80 - a long time since I last tackled either an SW or an '80, and a brew that's had little reportage.

Well not a Port but a dry wine, my only bottle of Batuta 1999 brought back from Portugal, a perfect wine for me in the past, it was corked

I think I'll try a 2000 Niepoort. Fortunately living on the coast we get a "marine effect" or somthing like that, resulting in a significant temperature difference. I dont think theres an air conditioner in my entire town, so it's VP any month of the year!

Tough choice, but I am going to get into some 2004 VP cask samples again, to celebrate the FTLOP's success.

Wish I could join everyone in celebrating this event, but I leave in the morning to climb Mount Rainier. But I do want to congratulate Roy on a wonderful website and continue success.

Cheers.

I climbed Ranier about 13 years ago in July, and got to the top and back but with terrible sunburn. But it's not so hard that you could not bring a 375 of something to celebrate when you get to the top! :D You will probably lose 2 pounds on the climb, so can afford to bring a little extra weight!

Of course 13 years later it may be to hard for me. So I'll have some port in your honor instead, while looking at the site

I love the FTLOP site, congratulations and good luck in the future!

Well well. Many causes for celebration this w/e. Tomorrow is a good friend's 50th birthday. And he's quite a lover of fine wines. Then on Sunday, another cigar loving friend has invited me to dinner. And the anniversary of FTLOP too!!!

Sounds like a weekend begging for Port. Maybe a young one that will drink over the 3 days. Maybe 2000 Niepoort Secundum?
Cheers, B.

That reminds me of the beginning of a Door's song, with lyrics:

"There's been a slaughter here."

Enjoy that young puppy, Mr. B and have a great weekend. Love to Ms. B.

Remmember, oh baby baby it's a wild world!
