Any lusophiles on this site listen to Fado? I just saw a NYC show at City Winery for Anna Moura. http://www.citywinery.com/newyork/ticke ... -3-18.html
And also every Weds in NYC at the restaurant Alfama is Nathalie Pires.

Re: Fado
Huge Fado lover here. Whilst in NY I am considering going to Alfama. I previously had seen the notice of Ms. Moura but will not be able to partake this time.
That being said, I've explored the real Alfama, the quaint old district in old Lisboa that has the best Fado on the planet.
I prefer the old Queens of Fado, but some of the newer and younger singers are pretty exciting too. Love Mariza but that's not saying anything new.

Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

Re: Fado
I was in Lisbon immediately after Amalia died. Flying in we were worried the whole country would be shut down. Luckily, it wasn't and we were able to go Tour the city (my first visit), go to the Port wine institute then over to a Fado club before heading south the next day. Fado is an essential stop in Lisbon.
I have seen Mariza at Lincoln Center in NYC; she is fantastic. But I think I prefer a small venue for fado. The music is soulful and intimate settings fit so neatly with this art form.
If I can get the babysitters for a Monday night, I will take the wife to see Ana Moura on March 18.
Where do you listen to fado on a regular basis?
I get the station "Amalia" 92.0 in Lisbon on a free app called Tunein radio. Any other Internet radio for fado?
