D'Oly 1850 Verdelho: A 60s Bottling?

The RWC states that the most recent bottles that they've received were bottled in the 60s and recorked in 2009. Is anyone familiar with this bottling? I thought many of these had been bottled in the 70s, and even a report from some that a very recent bottling had taken place.

From a ws search it looks like there are some 2011 bottlings out there. I will have a look at mine later today and let you know if I come across a different bottling date. Ive heard from Eric that the 1850 is a super Verdelho tho!

Quick reply. I had a look at my bottle an it seems to be imported by Heritage. No producer back label, hence no bottling date. Im happy to shoot you a pic if I can ever figure out how to post pics to this forum.

I believe the oldest bottled versions the Rare Wine Co have are the Family Reserve from the 1970's. Have you some additional info? Mannie believes that the D'Oliveiras Verdelhos improve in the bottle. They lose some of their exuberence and gain in elegance. I've never had the Family Reserve side by side with newer bottled versions so I can't give you my experience; but every bottle of the 1850 I've had have been fabulous, between 95 and 97 points. D'Oliveiras starting putting the bottling dates on the back label in the 1990's.
