Ex-cellar bottles and labels

Post by Andy Velebil »

Another thread got me thinking and I thought I'd get others opinions.

Should bottles that are held "in Cellar" then released at a much later time (20+ years) have a separate, small label that indicates the year the bottle was released from cellar. I'm talking just a small sticker, say on the back of the bottle. Just so a buyer knows when the bottle was put on the market.

What do you think?

I think this would be an excellent idea. Another thread delved into the possibility of paying a premuim for ex cellers bottles. This would play right into that, and increase confidence (depending on the closeness of the release date my purchase date). It would also alay fears as mentioned before, about old bottles looking to new to be true.

Yes.

If a shipper has been sitting on some bottles for a very long time and then chooses to release them, it is common sense to draw attention to the the fact that they've been in good hands, and to provide the release date on the label.

While the shippers seem well tuned to the market when it comes to Reserves, Tawnies & LBV's, they sometimes seem a little detached from the cares and concerns of the consumer when it comes to the Special Categories.

Maybe they should talk to them more...
