I didn't realize this style was banned when they joined the EUAlthough banned when Portugal joined the EU, examples of Madeira’s rare, often very old solera expressions still remain available on the market.

I think I read somewhere that its banned from starting new soleras, they can still add too existing soleras and bottle them at will.

NO new Solera can be started. Only the one's already in cask are grandfathered in and can be bottled, IF ... they are already registered with the IVBAM.
