Best Decant Time for a 1963 Dows

Post by John M. »

A friend just received one of these for his birthday and we intend to drink it in a month or so. Based on what I've read in the TNs and Roy's general decant times it seems like 2-5 hours would be best. Does anyone have any further opinion? Just want to optimize the tasting-----thanks as always.

I'd shoot for the 4-ish hour mark.

4-ish hours seems good as a starting point for a casual drinking. That way you can watch it evolve over a few hours.

For a formal tasting I'd probably go closer to 5-6 hours - I think that's closer to what it probably needs.

Decant times can vary. Normally, I'd say 4 hours, but the 63 Dow's I have been drinking recently take around 8 hours to open up.

I'd stick with 4 hours and go from there.
