Lamb & Syrah, a match made in heaven

Post by Roy Hersh »

Then again a great Douro red wine, Chateauneuf du Pape, Pinot Noir (especially w/ age) or even a young Zinfandel can go great with lamb.

What type of wine do you enjoy pairing with lamb?

More often than not, I probably am drinking Syrah (or Shiraz as we like to call it) with lamb. Any of those mentioned by Roy work for me, although I'd be very careful about which pinot I'd be choosing. I also don't mind a Cab Sauv with lamb as some regions over here often exhibit a touch of mint or eucalypt as part of their regional character which I think can work quite well with lamb.

Not a big fan of Syrah with lamb. Give me old school Pinot (none of that overripe, over alcoholic swill that is popular right now). Or even an older Cabernet based wine and a more traditional Douro wine works well.

An old Northern Rhone wine with lamb is great. I think even Andy would like it. 8--)

Next time I see you, we'll have to give this a try. I've fire up the grill and bring the lamb. You bring the Rhone (I have none).

I've been off forum for some time, but have to concur with the sentiments of the forum owner.
