I stopped by a local Thriftway yesterday and was blown away to find a shopping cart full of port discounted at 50% off! Sice I bought more than six, I got an additional 10% off! Here is the haul.

Five bottles of Kopke 1980 Colheita for $38.70 each. Four different bottling dates: 2 x 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007.
Rocha 1983 Colheita for $29.70 bottled 2002. Kopke 1988 Colheita $36.90 bottled 2008. Rocha 1995 Colheita $35, bottled 2007. Half bottled of Kopke 1992 Colheita $11.50, bottled 2010. And just for kicks, a bottle of a Croft Special Reserve for $9. Quite a nice tawney haul!

Nice!

My local QFC has a bunch of Ports in their wine room, but they're way overpriced. I've been waiting for them to discount them to unload them, but so far it seems they'd rather just hang onto them. They go through "wine guys" pretty regularly... several "wine guys" ago I had a good relationship with the guy, and he'd let me know when Port was about to be unloaded. I got ten 1997 Quinta do Tedo's for about $20 each that way. 8--)

Welcome Dave!! [welcome.gif] No worries, this group will help you overcome that previous lack of Port buying

Last night, double blind at a wine dinner, I opened a NV Churchill's Dry White Port. For those who enjoyed Port, they loved it and most were shocked at what it ended up being once the bag was removed. As guesses were all over the map. I love blind tastings....

First VP purchase was a doozie . . . I hope Gary's Wine is a reputable source :-/

This purchase ships Dec. 1st. Went with a temporary wine fridge, will have to figure out a cellar situation during the 1-5 years of life the fridge offers.
