Hello from the Boston MA area.

I've been heavily into Single Malts and Bourbon/Rye over the last 10-15 years. I recently got an itch to check out the world of Port and Madeira.
I didn't want to have a 'bad' first impression so I poked around this site to get a feel for a good first bottle. So I picked up a Sandeman 20yo Tawny Port this weekend.
Very nice, I was not disappointed.

In the world of whiskey, I found an excellent asset is those odd liquor stores that hold regular tastings. They are a great opportunity to try a variety of bottlings to widen ones horizons and sort out what you do and don't like. Are there any tasting opportunities coming up in the Boston area?

Wont be cheap but you'll love it :)

I already got myself a bottle of 1982 Dow Porto Colheita Single Harvest Tawny for christmas from our national alcoholic beverage retailing store.
I got slightly interested about Dalva Golden White Colheita 1963 which they also have listed. The problem is it is sold out at the moment from their every store. What do you think about this white port, worth hunting down?

Welcome Mika! I haven't had the 1982 Dow Colheita, but I suspect you've got a nice bottle there. I haven't had the 1963 Dalva either, and while I've heard greater things about the 1952, I've heard good things about the 1963 and think it is probably worth hunting down.

Nice to see you here too. Very cool. Geting people to flip from FB to this Forum has been a goal of mine since I began over there and I put a lot of work into the FB page as you know. Unfortunately, it doesn't translate into many of the "like" crowd there to come visit here. Nice to have you. BTW are you friends with Ari or Mari there? If you don't know who I mean we can discuss privately. Anyway, glad to have you join us here.

I've had the 1963 five or six times now and three times just since June. It is very good. Not quite on a par with the 1952 and sometimes there is a bit of heat on the nose/palate, but overall, it is quite good.

If you gave me a price in Euros, I could give you a better opinion if it is worth buying.

Hi Mika and to the Forum!

I've had the 1963 Dalva a number of times and it's a very good Port. Like Roy stated, it's not quite up to the same level as the 1952 Dalva Golden White, but still very good in its own right. Hopefully you're able to get some at a decent price to try. I love old white Ports as they add in some dimensions you don't get in their red counterparts.

I'm afraid i have no pleasure of knowing Ari or Mari, but i did notice that there seems to be several Finns on the board, which is great.

If that price was for a 750 ml bottle, I'd say the price was worth it, but for a 500 ml, I think that is a bit steep to be honest!

My name is Will O'Neil, I live in Vancouver, WA, I started collecting/drinking VP in the early 1990's.

Don't really remember how I got hooked on VP other than it was a bottle of Graham that got me started.

As far as a favorite, I have liked them all, so I guess I don't have a favorite

My youngest child is off to college this year so I am starting to have more time to spend on my hobbies, one of them being VP

I'm sure i found the site years ago via a google search.
