Re: What have you opened this week?
1994 Taylor, a little early but still so good

Re: What have you opened this week?
On Saturday at our Christmas Party for friends had the 2000 SW LBV, decanted 15 hours--very nice with velvet cherries--still fruity but nicely resolved--moderate weight, great finish. So this ran out fast so I popped a 2008 Taylor Vargellas---not a good idea. This is a good one but very tannic and in a pop and pour it was a disservice to this wine. I have several 375mm of these and had one about 6 months ago that I left out a while and performed much better.
On a side note, I did use port tongs to open the Vargellas as a "party trick". That's always so much fun.

Any Port in a storm!

Re: What have you opened this week?
I must say that I was a tad disappointed. The nose was a mix of light floral notes, citrus and an off putting medicinal note. The palate, although light in body, was a bit better - tobacco, stone fruits & a spice note dominate. The finish was short and hot. I did find it a little simple, very sweet and one-dimensional. I hope your bottle shows a little better than this one did!Al B. wrote:I've got one standing up to be the next bottle I open - how was it?Marc J. wrote:1976 Graham's Malvedos VP

Re: What have you opened this week?
My bottle is very similar. Very evolved with lots of cinammon and caramel but still some gentle tannins to give a bit of structure. Lacking some acidity the port is a bit unfocused and simple - but still quite drinkable.Marc J. wrote:I must say that I was a tad disappointed. Thinking about how long to decant Quinta do Vesuvio 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996 ... They will be opened soon.
