Niepoort LBV 1997

Post by Frederick Blais »

I really like my LBV when they have around 10 years of age and this showed why again tonight.

Intense and opaque ruby color with a light pink/tawny edge. After 3 hours this LBV was bursting with flavours of sweet plums, dark chocolate and licorice. This is my last and 2nd bottle of this Port and I find it has gain fruit density since the first bottle 3 years ago. Really nice smooth and ripe dark fruits mouthfilling palate, lots of cherries and plums, great balance with acidity, the finale is on ripe fruit and bitter dark chocolate. Though showing a bit of alcohol there, can't ask more for the price. Around 20$can at that time. 16/20

For those who likes their LBV somewhat more mature, it should evolve for the next 5-10 years easily.
