Henriques & Henriques

Post by Roy Hersh »

Tonight, I've been invited to attend an evaluation of Henriques & Henriques 10/15 year olds and share some wisdom w/ a small/private group @ the importer's office. We are only doing Sercial, Verdelho and Terrantez tonight. We will follow that up another time with Bual and Malvasia in February.

I'll post TNs in the next newsletter. We had some 10, 15 and 20 year old versions of H&H and two bottles of corresponding RWC Historic Series bottlings. While I had heard that some of the H&H bottlings were going to show a lot of new American Oak (review of Richard Jennings in his blog), I did not find that to be the case.

Few were profound, but all were good. My least favorite was the Sercial because it showed to much RS and was not dry enough to have me believe it showed typicity of the grape. It was way into the Verdelho range from my point of view. Not a bad wine, just not what I'd choose to buy as a Sercial when there are other producers who do a better job with this grape at similar or less money.

I've always really loved the H&H 15-year Verdelho, but haven't found it in the US in quite a while. Is there an importer now bringing it in?

Yes, I was with the importer when I had those and also again last night for the sweeter side of the spectrum with Bual and Malmsey.

Thanks Roy. I reached out to them to see who they have distributing them in Illinois. It'll be great to get access to them again.

Nice juice and often times 10 year olds were best values, up against the 15 and 20 year olds. It was fun trying them blind vs. one another.
