Image      #23 is the favourite of PhilW, my second-favourite, and liked by GEE.

Image      #19 the favourite of ADV.

Image      #17 the favourite of GEE.

Image      #24 might be the other favourite of GEE.

Image      #25 is JDAW’s preference, being marginally preferred to #23.

Image      #26 requested by DRT.

Image      And an honourable mention for the old favicon (also designed by me).

Perhaps Roy could do a poll of these (minus those he dislikes).

I’ve made a new version of #23, visually identical, but reducing the size of the file by 12%.

Image      = old

Image      = new

I’ll do the same file-size-reduction for whichever is selected (and if #23 is selected, please could the IT people use the new smaller file).

Also, as #23 is my favourite, a 24× zoom is shown below, as if on a white background.

I do also like #24, but I'm coming 'round to #23 now. It does look more compact and tidy with the letters below the bottles.

The current icon is also still good. 8--)

Just added, #25, a variant of #23, with added white edging.

On a different background: 23 = Image      25 = Image

In the 24× zoom grey checks represent transparency. (In the zoom of #23, two posts ago, all white pixels are transparent.)

I marginally prefer #25 to #23, but it is close.

In this thread, on this background (a semi-grey light blue for me), I prefer #23 to #25. But on a darker background I suspect I might prefer #25 for clarity.

Some candidate favicons are tested against some background colours in www.jdawiseman.com/2014/201402_ftlop_favicon.html.

I'm somewhat surprised to find that I prefer 23/24 to 25 on all of the tested colors.

Your preference seems stronger than mine, so wins.

#23 versus #24: I much prefer letters below. How strong is your preference? If strong, a moderator’s preference outranks the designer’s preference. If not strong, designer’s strong preference wins.

Good - I didn't like the effect of #25 on non-white backgrounds. #23/#24 superior to #17 for me, for the same reason.

#23 or #24?   Image or Image ?   Letters below or above?   Just noticed, on the front page:

Perhaps you should lose the labels on the favicon bottles to make them more similar to the main site logo?

Added. I prefer #23, but could live with #26. YMMV.

Roy Hersh wrote:I could certainly live with #4 if it had a capital "O" instead of our current favicon. I said I'd keep an open mind.
The ‘O’ has been capitalised.

Roy: could you live with #23 = Image or with #25 = Image or with #26 = Image ?

Edit: don’t forget to look at them on various backgrounds.

My phone isn't displaying gifs so I can't comment on the new ones, but I'm coming 'round to letters below between 23 and 24. It is more compact and matches the front page logo.

Roy Hersh, by private message, wrote:26 is my favorite. No question about it.
So we have a decision: Image it is.

The files are at:
Image www.jdawiseman.com/2014/20140215_ftlop_favicon_26.gif
Image www.jdawiseman.com/2014/20140216_ftlop_favicon_26.ico

Please use the former for on-page graphics, in particular, as a emoticon. Please could the emoticon not have the BBcode :ftlop: as changing the meaning of that BBcode would edit the posts of people who have used it. Perhaps :ftlop2014: would be acceptable. Though the old graphic could cease to appear on the list of emoticons.

(Edited to change the .ico link to point to the new version with transparency. I didn’t know until a few hours ago that .ico supported transparency.)

Yes, 26 it is, thank you Julian!

Done, by David Spriggs: thank you.

Not working for you? Most browsers rarely re-load a favicon, because they change so rarely. So open www.fortheloveofport.com/favicon.ico in a new tab, and reload reload reload until it updates. Then it the browser will be using the new.
