What sport goes best with Port?
Do you have any specific sporting events that you watch on TV that you typically watch with a glass of Port in hand? No need to tell us about your favorite beer. We know beer and sports is a natural. Just wanting to some of us enjoy spectator sports with Port wine. ![Huh? [shrug.gif]](./images/smilies/shrug.gif)

Re: What sport goes best with Port?
I've been known to have a port or two while the Tour de France is on. This has a lot to do with the coverage starting at about 9:30pm and it being the middle of winter for me.
With the winter Olympics about to start, I might have to see how that goes with port - the only problem being we are expecting a 40C day on Saturday when it starts in earnest, so not optimal port drinking weather.

As I don't watch many sport on the television, can I answer my preferred time to have a glass?
Just before and during preparing dinner. Just wonderful, listening to jazz radio, no one around, just me, the dog and a nice glass of port to sip from...

I think I'm going to watch the Winter Olympics with Port. Just looking at all that cold with some Port sounds right.

Yeah, me too.Eric Ifune wrote:I think I'm going to watch the Winter Olympics with Port. Just looking at all that cold with some Port sounds right.
Other than that, I find that Port goes better with more relaxed watching. It's not a football drink to me, because if I'm watching football I'm probably yelling at the TV at least occasionally.
Curling seems to be the perfect Port sport. Or maybe Cricket? Baseball is nice and relaxed, but I think of that as a summer game so it'd have to be a white Port.

Curling and Port? We want people to drink more Port not less after they have one glass and fall asleep from sheer bordom. And surely they will blame the Port.

I'll second the relaxed sports idea. I like curling and will watch with port. I'll also watch biathlon/XC skiing with port as well.
As for non winter Olympic sports, I'll go with some basketball (less important games), long distance running, baseball and sports I'm only kinda into.

Downhill skiing and LBV Port works well.

I would go with football - soccer that is. I was watching the play off Sweden-Portugal in last november when Portugal made it to the next summer's World Cup.
After Christian Ronaldo scored third time i just had to reach my Kopke tawny bottle and say "saute" to that genius of a player.
Portugal butchered our neighbour Sweden 2-3 with Ronaldo's hat-trick.
When the right moment comes, i think it would be cool to watch a good game from FC Porto with some nice Port wine to go with. :)

If it ever gets cold enough here, I've got an FC Porto scarf to wear while drinking and watching a gameMika H wrote:I would go with football - soccer that is. I was watching the play off Sweden-Portugal in last november when Portugal made it to the next summer's World Cup.
