Zachy's Spring Auction Madeiras
I see several possibly interesting offerings, including an 1875 Blandy's Sercial. Anyone familiar with this wine? There are also a few relatively obscure bottlings from the 19th century in the very last lot offered. Any info on them?

Any more info on the 1842 Terrantez? Label? I've a bottle of 1842 Terrantez, unknown producer but the paper label has the old saying about Terrantez on it regarding how God made Terrantez for wine.

Re: Zachy's Spring Auction Madeiras
Eric,
if I may ask (since I'll stay in Vegas for 2 nights in May): which restaurant would you suggest for a fine dinner (I am thinking Steak - dry aged) resp. for a regular, nothing fancy, dinner?
Still deciding on the Hotel...
Thanks in advance
Andy

Re: Zachy's Spring Auction Madeiras
My bottle looks a little different, but the same quotation. My label has a different font. Wondering if they are the same wine but bottled at different times. Any idea as to the producer? ![Toast [cheers.gif]](./images/smilies/cheers.gif)

Craftsteak is good. I've heard that Delmonicos and Cut are also very good.
What dates will you be in LV?

Hey Eric,
May, 8-10 - thenafter we'll head to Palm Springs (where we'll stay for 3 weeks
).
Caring for other wines than Madeira, also?
Leaving Europe on last April, maybe we could set something up?
Cheers

Andreas. I'm an hour or so from PS. If you've got free time maybe we can meet up and crack some bottles if our schedules work out.

This may not be everyone's idea of a wine=y restaurant, but I'm still trying to get to Lotus of Siam just to explore their German holdings.

John,
Better hurry. Bank, their sommelier and builder of their cellar has gone to another restaurant. They're not emphasizing wine as much and the buys are disappearing.

Bank went to another Thai restaurant in town. More high end and expensive. I've heard good things about it, but haven't been there myself.

Re: Zachy's Spring Auction Madeiras
I'll drift in another direction. Zachy's online auction has a bunch of Port Colheitas this month. Alas, I have been outbid this week. I need to go back an reevaluate. They aren't as old as the Madeiras, but 1912, 1934, 1937 ...

Eric, I was thinking about bidding on some of those. Please keep me posted regarding your bidding interest, and I will back off where appropriate.Eric Menchen wrote:I'll drift in another direction. Re: Zachy's Spring Auction Madeiras
I have been outbid on the 1912 and 1934 and don't plan to bid any higher. Feel free. On the 1937, I am the current high bidder at $240, and don't plan to go higher either. If you see it go more than that, jump in if you want. And if you really think you want to bid more than that now, I won't be offended. I might go bid on some Amarone, CdP, or Sauternes ...Steve Pollack wrote:Eric, I was thinking about bidding on some of those. Thanks, Eric. I have not bid yet; plan to take a closer look soon. Some burgs and riesling I also have my eye on.
