What have you opened or tasted in the first half of this year that was a knockout and tops your list?

The 1827 Serrado Bual was pretty special as I remember. Aside for that I have enjoyed 1903 D'Oliveiras Bual and 1979 Borges Sercial.

1989 d'Oliveiras Malvazia.
Opened a bottle back in Nov but only finished it now. Really like it and it isnt prohibitively expensive.

Lol Reidar. I finished my one bottle of the 88 T yesterday. Preferred the 89 M though.

Having a little Mãe Manuela now, hoping my first bottle lasts me through the 2nd half of the year... Opened it Jan 8th when my 2nd boy was born!

I absolutely loved this wine. I was so taken with it at our tasting at Barbeito that I bought some from the Rare Wine Co as soon as I got back to the hotel. This is one of those wines where the blend is so amazing that it probably is better than the sum of the parts.

1934 Leacock Bual and 1907 Blandy's Bual. The latter was terrific in the early 1990s, and just seems better and better as it ages.

After a long time without posting anything here, allow me to leave my impressions.

Absolute favorites were the 1898 Barbeito Sercial, 1850 Olivera's Verdelho (70's bottling) and 1934 Justino's Boal. Apart from these, I would say the 40 years Malvazia from Borges, 40 years Malvazia Mãe Manuela, the 1987 Mavlazia D'Oliveiras and the 1995 Borge's Boal.

Having recently returned from Madeira last weekend - and therefore it does not count as first half - I would add Barbeito's 20 Years Verdelho Ribeiro Real and the 1992 Sercial.

Hi Goncalo!
Is the Barbeito 20 Years Verdelho Ribeiro Real available on the island? As far as I know there's none in the States.

Neither in mainland Portugal! It has just been released and is available at Barbeito's shop at the winery. You can also view the wine's techincal sheet on Barbeito's website.

The wine is absolutely stunning, but will be even better in the future.
