The past little while we have posted two articles from the Newsletter 79 from 6 months ago:

http://www.fortheloveofport.com/2014/07 ... es-twenty/ Ten Tawnies at Twenty which is an interesting account of a tasting of - you guessed it - by reader Rune Gustavsen (who had help from the family in the tasting process!). In addition to all those tawnies, there were a couple vintages too.

http://www.fortheloveofport.com/2014/07 ... to-amaral/ Bento Amaral is responsible for the tasting and analysis of every wine certified by the IVDP. While many of you will be interested in the profile of Bento because of his role in the Port trade, I found his life story to be the best part - he became quadriplegic as a young man after a surfing accident, and oddly enough he looks back and realises he fulfilled his greatest dreams - notably travel and sporting prowess related - as a direct result of his accident. The article links through to a video of a Ted Talk he gave here in Porto in 2011 - be sure to turn on the English subtitles on YouTube if you don't understand Portuguese.

And finally, this last weekend I visited the incredible festival of Fado music which was held on the riverfront in Gaia. All the events were free, the music was fantastic, and I got to hear Mariza live for the first time, which was amazing. The article, http://www.fortheloveofport.com/2014/07 ... s-de-fado/ also includes some suggestions on tracking down more great music experiences - not just fado! - when you plan your visit to Porto and Gaia.

Enjoy! I am off to the Douro later this week so look forward to getting a viti update for us all as well as a full report on a particularly interesting Port project.
