Justin, how was the Borges Sercial? I am curious about that wine as it is my birthyear and 1979, was not a good vintage overall.

Goncalo,
I had this at the winery when I was in Funchal over NYE. Was very impressed with it so I bought a couple bottles to take home with me. Similar showing the other night with notes of almond, vanilla, lime, and the proper amount of acidity. Bright orange hue.. Very very good young Sercial. I recommend it.

Thanks Justin! I might get a couple of bottle for me then.

2001 Barbeito malvasia colheita casco 727 d+e

This reminded me of one of the lighter, less oxidized Tokaji azsu wines at first.

How did the Broadbent 10 Yr Malsey fare in such company? It has been my Madeira staple...

Let me guess, Roy. The H & H 20 year Malmsey came in first, right?

D'Oliveiras 1875 Malvasia. I love this Madeira and wish I had more than 1 left in the cellar. Killer juice, every time I have this I am blown away, which is saying a lot as Malmsey/Malv is not my favorite style of Madeira any longer. Hasn't been for many years, yet I still enjoy the great ones on occasion.

My favorite of the entire D'Oliveiras lineup we tasted on the 2010 Fortification tour. Great Madeira!

How have you found your taste in Madeira evolve over the years?

Over the last year have gone from finding Malmsey too acidic to now not even noticing the acidity and sometimes finding it overbearingly lush (1989 Terrantez M).

I had a young gal over the other day who was studying hard for her WSET test next week in SF. We had a handful of bottles of Madeira by Henriques and Henriques as well as the 10 year old Broadbent Malmsey. The 10-15-20 year old Henriques & Henriques deliver class and great value for money.
