Taylor's Vargellas 1991 which showed very well. Lots of fruit and a long aftertaste. I liked this a lot.
Just opened a bottle of Niepoort 2003 a few hours ago for the weekend.
Not much on the nose, only alcohol, but I'll try to write a TN on this later this week.
Kind regards, Monique.

2000 Quinta do Noval Silval which did not show particularly well. I also opened a Warres Warrior & a Quarles Harris 10 year old. Both of the latter two wines were very enjoyable (as always) and did not disappoint.

Fonseca 1966 - absolutely fantastic. If only I had enough of these I would drink one every month. Simply exquisite - elegant but powerful.

Croft Distinction - it has been awhile since I've had this and I was interested in revisiting it.

Graham's Emperor Tawny - quite light bodied but a good, long aftertaste. Bit too sweet for my taste though. And the first port I have ever seen sealed with a screw-cap.

Cálem 40 Year Old Tawny "Magnificent," bottled in 1989. Well, technically Glenn opened it.

And it was quite good, though not what any of us would have called magnificent.

Thanks for sharing Eric!

Just popped a 1983 Gould Campbell VP. This one doesn't even need decanting... wow! Epic nose, and really a treat for the palate.
TN will come later.

1999 Quinta de Roriz Vintage Port - need to "re-calibrate" my palate before this weekend's big 1980s retrospective!

Went to an offline this week where we opened Taylor 1965 LBV, Taylor 1967 LBV, Taylor 1969 LBV, Taylor 1979 LBV, Niepoort 1975 LBV, Krohn 1997 LBV, Warre 1995 LBV, Warre 1999 LBV and Andresen 2005 LBV. Very interesting to see how LBV matures.
My advice - don't age any Taylor LBV
If you want to buy LBV to lay down, then buy Warre Traditional LBV

Very cool, thanks Alex. Just curious, how did the Niepoort show from that weak year?
While I am at it, I opened a bottle of Fonseca 20 year old Tawny last night to get some alc into me before this weekend's onslaught. It is a 2007 bottling and much better than I remember. With another day or two with air in the head space, it should be even better. I remember this being a bit spirity in past renditions. I surmise that the extra couple of years in bottle has smoothed out the edges.

Not well, barely better than the Taylor wines even though it was unfiltered. The Warre LBVs are a class above the others we tried.
