LOL. Believe it or not, I wanted to find something different to add into the mix of the '83 tasting and way overpaid for this Port ... with shipping $128 ... but it was well worthwhile as it showed well and improved the longer we were at the tasting. I was surprised it had a decent number of 1st place votes.

Nice. Those aren't yet listed in the U.S., and of course I'm curious about tasting notes as well. I think I'll probably end up buying a couple of cases of 2011, maybe 6 Vesuvio ... after that, too many choices I think.

Your list was nice as well Miguel. Those are all good, and I love the 1994 Quinta do Vesuvio.

Me? This week, one each of:
1970 Graham's
1977 Graham's
1985 Fonseca
1985 Warre's
1992 Quinta do Vesuvio

5 x 1983 Ramos Pinto VP @ $50 ea
1 x 1976 Smith Woodhouse LBV @ $25

I bid on but didn't get the 1983 Ramos Pinto magnum at WineBid. I was willing to go to $105, but since the above 750s were available I didn't see the point of going any higher and then having to pay both 15% buyer's premium and 10% California sales tax in addition.

Where did you find the 750s?

10 x 1963 Grahams Vintage Port
12 x 1970 Ferreira Vintage Port

I bid on, but didn't win the 12 x 1966 Dow's bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd. I'm disappointed in that, but I'll live! Still looking for nice bottles of this particular port.
These are my first bottles of Ferreira VP in my collection!

Like your list too. Own the 77 Graham and the 85 Fonseca but only ever tasted the 77 Graham... v nice, and at the price you can find it on wine bid, it is hard to pass up on. 1970 Graham must be v v nice!

Found a few bottles at really good prices over the last couple of weeks on winebid, or at least so it seemed to me... the fountain dried up for now though... back to patiently waiting! The wife will appreciate my restraint :)

Was this at Strakers (or just a large co-incidence)?

I haven't yet seen what whether i won the Dow 66, but i bid particularly hard for those, and what i thought was relatively hard for the Ferreira 70s as well!

If i was outbid on the Ferreira, it is likely i was outbid on the Dow as well, since i put in bids that exceeded top estimate of both by a similar percentage (and the listed estimates seemed about right for their relative standing i thought).

Knightsbridge Wine Shoppe in Northbrook, IL. I bought all 5 they had, though.

Not a coincidence at all! It was most definitely at Strakers. :-) I bid very hard on the two I won. I'm a bit shocked that it was at my high bid on both. I did not bid that high on the Dow. I figured out what I felt that they were worth and added a small premium for BBR bottling and went with it. My bid was £850 and that probably wasn't a proper bid increment, but oh well. I don't know what the bid increments are at Straker. I'll have to ask them.

I hope these wines are in good shape. I've had good experiences with Straker's lots in the past.

I'm not...just about every bid i have ever won with Strakers has ended up being bang-on my "high bid"....if it was a London-based auction, i'd definitely go in person rather than leaving remote bids.

On the BBR Dow 66, i went a couple of bids higher, so there's still hope for me...i'll find out tomorrow!

The provenance of the Ferreira was described as follows: AN EXTENSIVE PARCEL OF FINE AND INTERESTING WINES Recently removed from the extensive cellars of a Worcestershire Manor House

Going by the other lots from that parcel, "extensive" is somewhat of an understatement so it looks rather promising!

Yes, it was a very deep cellar owned by someone (or several generations) who was a real wine enthusiast. I like buying in that area (around Wales) because passively stored wines seem to be in great shape!

For my granddaughter who was born in 2011. She will not be allowed to drink them until she's 25.

1x 1977 Gould Campbell VP
1x 1989 Quinta do Vesuvio VP
1x 1994 Smith Woodhouse VP
I missed out on a couple more 77 Gould Campbells. I'm still a bit annoyed at that.
