Still working on a 2003 Osborne LBV that I opened yesterday which is surprisingly good. Planning on popping a 1997 Barros Colheita tonight...

last saturday I opened a Quevedo 10 YO Tawny, and a Dalva (C. da Silva) Vintage 1977.

Nice detail being that I opened both with my brand new Port tongs, received directly from Portugal (thanks to the very kind help from my good friend Oscar Q. who made it all possible [notworthy.gif] ). It was my first try with the tongs, so that's why I decided to practice on the 10 YO first, before I dared to use it on the highlight of the evening, the 1977 Dalva VP. It took more than one try per bottle, but in the end I got them open with nice clean cuts [dance2.gif] .

One little thing I still have to master, is how to pour the port without spilling anything into my funnel and decanter. The glass rim isn't that cooperative in that respect. I'm open to tips and suggestions :thanks:

A bottle of Ramos Pinto....its a very sweet (cloyingly so) tawny port that is actually quite pleasant. It is an old bottle that only has 2 words (other than Ramos-Pinto, Porto and Portugal) on the label: Alourado-Adamado. My in-house Portuguese translator (wife) wasn't too helpful - she says that Alourado means blondish; adamado means sweet. I guess that it translates as sweet tawny. I have several cases of this one to get through...I think that I will pace myself!

We had a half bottle offline earlier this week and I opened a cask sample from 2010 and a half bottle of Sandeman 1927 that I have had for a few years and needed an excuse to open. Back to more mundane drinking now - Grahams Emperor Tawny.

Belatedly celebrated the 50th birthday of a friend who was born in December by opening a bottle of Ferreira 1960 (which was beautiful), a bottle of Chateau Palmer 1980 (which was also lovely) and a bottle of Croft 2004 LBV just to show as a contrast against the Ferreira!

A very impressive bottle of Dow's Icon Reserve - highly recommended!

And a delicious bottle of Martinez 1970.

Alex,

I opened the Ferreira 1960 too, and it was fabulous. I recently had the 1975 (again) and it was a beauty. We had a 1980 Ferreira here in our tasting and it showed like a Colheita. In Gaia 3 weeks ago, it was wonderful alongside the 1975 and others; but admittedly the 1975 was my favorite and still remains my top 1975 of all.

A bottle of Taylor 20yo tawny as a cellar defender, which failed to work since I also bought and opened a bottle of Fonseca 1970.
