Please name some so that we know what you are describing.
Rather obviously, anything that pre-dates the foundation of the IVP in... 1932?

Yep.
It would also be interesting to know whether all the "undeclared" VPs produced over the years were approved by IVP/IVDP. I have seen reference to the fact that 2009 Cockburn Q d Canais was approved/registered, but how about those bottles of Cockburn 1966?

I suggested to Jo that I should purchase a case of Noval Nacional 1931 from the household budget and capitalize it so that the expense could be written-off over the next 10 years.
The answer seems to be that vintage port cannot be capitalized

Not true, it can be, but only in direct relation to her shoes being capitalized

Perhaps the next question should be whether the cost of your port collection can be added to the cost of your mortgage / real estate bond?

well, the bottle itself is probably an asset that can be capitalized, since it has future use / salvage value and is technically an asset. The juice however, is a consumable commodity, and can not. I would say the cork is a disposable consumable and therefore fits as an operating cost expense.
maybe if you buy it on Ebay where you are buying a "bottle" only, and the juice is worthless, you could capitalize the entire purchase for your bottle business!

I had not checked in here for a couple of weeks and it is becoming clear that a significant number of people do feel that the words
Vintage
Port should have both words with capital letters.
