I've definitely grown into it since i tried it for the first time on May 16th. Got a bottle then, this time got 3. One thing that i found distracting last night was the overly spirity nose it showed on the glass. Reminded of the smell of liquid UHU glue (the one in the yellow tubes, not sure if popular in the US). Not what I was looking fwd to in a glass of Madeira... It still tasted great though.

Fernandez Over 40 year old Verdelho. The 48 year old version. Still lovely, aggressive acidity.

H&H 20-yr Terrantez, very curious to drink this, TN's have been all over the board. I took a drop and rubbed into my hands, then cupped for a deep sniff... soy sauce?

Been making my way through H&H Inauguration (2008 bottling) and '37 D'oli Sercial. The Sercial has been sitting with no cork for a few weeks now and has lost some of the acidity/edge. Flattened out. Still interesting and pitchy though. The H&H is really lovely. Sweet but acidic. Beautiful color and beautiful nose. A pleasure to sip on after dinner/ or whenever / or all of the time.

I did not like the AG Pacheco; others did. I thought that it was over concentrated and acidic after four days in a decanter. It was sort of a blend of an old verdelho and lighter fluid.
The 1969T and the 1988T were great. I'm working on the 1977T.

Anyone familiar with this bottling? The bottle I picked up was the last one left at the store and seems to have an older selo on it, but then again I'm under a dozen bottles of Madeira lifetime so I could be way off. It isn't a stenciled bottle.

Roy- I popped a '33 Justino as well! Mine had been standing for atleast 6 months. Color was much lighter than I remember (probably due to it being undisturbed and unshaken for so long.) The first day it was kicking and screaming a bit, which was a surprise, as I always remember how supple and soft-textured this wine is. After 24 hours, the wine rounded out and fleshed out to become what I always remember. While not a heavyweight Malvasia, it certainly has balance and the proper acidity to prevent it from being boring. I ejoyed this on Sunday much more than on Saturday (when I opened it) I look forward to more tonight!

Eric: Yes, surprisingly a T-cork, which was unexpected with the 1933 Malmsey.
I opened this on board our cruise to Alaska, as it was my mother's 80th birthday and this was the only bottle I had from her birth year. My wife, brother and his wife and my mom, all had a small pour in toasting to her life and the reason for our cruise. My wife is not really into Madeira (I'm quite ok with that
and over the next two nights my brother and I finished the remaining half of the bottle, each night with different Cuban cigars watching fjords pass by in the Alaska moon lit and never-dark night. Amazing. I thought this was a very solid, but not profound Madeira that improved throughout.

Blandy's Malmsey 5 Year Old. This is the first madeira I have tried. I was a little surprised how much it tasted like Whiskers Blake Tawney Port. I am sure this 5 year old in not representative of madeiras but do most madeiras have a tawny flavor to them?
