Me too. I'm all for education. [imnewhere.gif]
Ok guys lets get it. That's the easy part. Hard part, finding the right year where we can all get together

If one of you guys gets this, and we can find a time that works to get together, I'll cover a share of it for sure.

Andy, I'll be on working vacation in SoCal most of January. Just sayin'...

Or if you guys want to meet in the middle of the country, I'll get it and we'll do something here in Madison or Milwaukee or Chicago...

I don't know where it is being auctioned and will step aside to let one of you win it, but count me in as a participant. I will pay as soon as the invoice is received by auction winner.

The one actually bidding and taking delivery should keep the tongs.

Tom,
Shoot me an email and hopefully we can sort a time to meet up and crack some bottles when you're down this way.

Since the auction (and the Port) is in Chicago (2 hours from my place), I'd be glad to buy it and stash it here until needed. But unless we plan on actually gathering here to drink it (fine with me), I would have no way of shipping it to the venue -- plus, I'm not really interested in the tongs.

If I ask them, I'm sure TCWC wouldn't mind holding the lot in storage after the auction, at least until we've determined where they should ship it for consumption.

Guys, this exchange has kind of got me thinking...

Maybe this would be a good excuse for a Taylor event sometime in 2014. Anyone else interested? If we get this lot, we've got a pretty good start on assembling a bunch of drinkable Taylors. I could contribute 1945, 1948, 1955, and/or 1966 as needed. I admit I have a fondness for this shipper and would love such an event.

Any interest? If so, maybe we could stop hijacking this thread and start a fresh one to discuss.

I just found out that I am going to be down in SoCA to judge a wine competition at the beginning of March, but I might have a Saturday night free while down there.

Without a doubt we should arrange something for early March. Once your schedule firms up a bit, we can ink something in.

By the way guys, I wouldn't wait until the last minute to enter the bid. If you do, it’s likely to cost us more as we'd lose a tie. These are essentially secret bids, so no reason to jump in late. Who wants to do the honors? Since we're sharing the cost, I'd be in favor of a nice high shut-the-door bid. I'll send a check for my share to whoever gets it, just let me know.

So, hammer was $420 for that TCWC lot of Taylors and Port tongs. Did anybody actually put in a bid?

Fear not, Andy. I kind of had the feeling this had slipped through the cracks on the forum, so I entered a bid at the last minute. We got it. So there is a Taylor party in our future

I'll have TCWC hold these bottles until we decide where they need to be shipped, and when I have a minute I'll go ahead and start a fresh thread so we can start long-term planning.

On average, how many times per year do you typically use a Port tongs?
