For The Love Of Port

Does anybody out there own any Tregnums of Port?

Apart from those already mentioned, I know of the following large format bottlings:

i see no mention from anyone about mags made by either smith woodhouse or gould campbell. these two houses are some of the better values on the market, especially for older vintages, ie 77 and 83. anyone know if they made mags in the 70-91 vintages?

I came across an on-line retailer offering magnums of Gould Campbell 1977.

Spend my lunch break checking some online retailers and found some more magnums; I've updated the list.

If anyone wants a good night out Boisedale's an excellent Scottish restaurant in London has a Dow 1896 Nebucaduezzar for sale ( 24 hours notice mind ) at £10,000. (20 bottles at £500 equivalent a bottle)
It was ordered for a 70th birthday celebration in the 20's, sadly he died and the party was cancelled but the bottle survives!

I've just been looking at Corney & Barrow's current stock list. They have a magnum of Taylor 1948 on offer for £2,350. At £1,175 per bottle that makes the Dow 1896 an absolute bargain.

This would make for a great tasting party, and not really overly expensive per person. If you factor 6 pours per normal size bottle, that would make 120 people. At $20,000 for the bottle, that's $167 per person. With 1896 having been an excellent year, the wine is probably still pretty youthful.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread about magnums, but I just became aware of the bottling of some 1908 Graham magnums. They were bottled by the English bottler Plasket in 1910. I ran into this info when scanning some old information about The Saintsbury Club. A dozen of these bottles were donated to the club's cellar in 1931 by one of the founding members, Ian Campbell.

As I just opened a magnum of 1977 Warre's for 6 of us the other night, I thought I would have a look to see what threads were specifically about magnums and found this one the most intriguing and felt it was worth resurrecting at this time.

This year I've aquired several magnums, mostly newer Ports and some from older vintages. I think its fun to open them, but the setting has to be right. One of my favorites is a 1997 Quinta do Vesuvio magnum in a decorative wood box that i found in the basement of a little wine shop in Boston when I was there ealier this year. I can't recall ever seeing a Vesuvio magnum for sale around my parts, so I just had to get it.

I have a case of 6 Taylor 1992 mags and 2 mags of Fonseca , bought on release for my son's 1992 birth year.
I have never bought nor seen for sale in our area any other mags and think it is not the best size. We plan to open these for graduations, weddings, etc.
I have never opened a mag of port.

For those of you who use Winebid.com occasionally for acquisitions, I noticed that they have several lots of port magnums in this week's auction. The 1997 and 2000 Dow lots are new for this week. They've had the 1960 Graham up for auction for several weeks now. I've thought about the 1960 Graham but didn't want to pull the trigger on $350 plus the buyer's fee plus tax, given that this is a shakey vintage.

I don't really do magnums, but i do have half a dozen Morgan '66 in that format.

About a year ago, an Imperial of Taylor '85 went under the hammer in London.

Oh my... That is the best Graham I have ever had and can only imagine how much youth is in that magnum!

I have seen 1997 magnums of all the big names. I have 70 Croft and Sandeman in Magnum. Had '85 Grahams.

I think from 1970+ you should be able to find magnums of all the big names except Nacional.

Nacional has never been bottled in magnum, from what I've been told. So if you find one....run the other way.
