tanker,

have a look on http://www.wine-searcher.com - there are quite a few second string VP's from 1962 - Fonseca Guimaraens being one of them 8)

And for 61 babies

I was born in 1961. No VP, although the 61 Colheita from Krohn is tasty.
My problem with 61 is I'll never buy the big name Bordeaux, because I can get so MUCH more excellent VP for the price. OK, maybe never. I always have a "get rich slow" scheme going - the "get rich quick" doesn't work !

ted,

Graham's Malvedos and Taylor's Quinta do Vargellas were both produced in 1961. Search them out and enjoy you birthday's in style 8)

Ted,

Just be grateful you can get at least something on your birthyear. Me being '73 there is NO Port to be had.

not sure what is good in dry wine for '73? Maybe an old Douro red

Andy,

I believe there is a Taylor's Crusted from 1973 - good luck tracking that down

The bad news for you is that I uncovered an old rule in the book of life a few years ago that says "if you drink a vintage port from your birth year on your birthday each year you will live forever" - it's been nice knowing you :?

Derek

PS: I've only got 18 years to live

Derek,
If some disaster befalls you, who are you leaving your precious grapes to?
It'll have to be someone with a freezer. :)

Alan,

It's already covered in the Will. The grapes are to be consumed with some cheese and oat cakes to accompany my one and only bottle of Noval Nacional 1963. The attendees are to be restricted to the top 10 posters on FTLOP 8)

I thought that you were insisting that your one and only bottle of Noval Nacional 1963 had to be consumed by you, even if on your hospital bed and intravenously.

Presumably if you can't drink it then it has to be poured down the sink by your executor.

Alex,

There is a provision in the Will that allows the QNN63 to be consumed at the wake if my passing is sudden and unforseen. If I see it coming - you can be sure the empty bottle will be all you will find

Alex,Alex,Andy,etc,
So it seems clear to me, just give me a while to get in the Top Ten Posters, and then Derek will never see it coming....
And its a treat from the birth year of most of us, cant wait.
Hang on a minute...this is a Personal Message isn't it, he cant see this?
Doh!

Alan,
Have no fear, by now I'm sure Derek has his Port-goggles on....

Take care, Alan - if you enlist the help of your US colleagues in the hit you will be at risk of being caught out by friendly fire

Derek Turnbull wrote:tanker,

You could celebrate your birthday with a Quinta do Noval nacional 1962 at only $900 a bottle :?

Derek

If the SAQ in Québec thaught it could make a profit with the Nacional '62 ,
it would make it available . Hence this is not the case .

Damm regulatory body

tanker,

You need to be nice to Fred - he visits the Douro once or twice per year and I am quite sure he has worked out a way to get bottles home (legally) without going through SAQ

Derek

"legally" added to avoid confusion and any suggestion that Fred would be breaking the law

Alan,

Don't be too freaked out by this :?

I have carried out some detailed research tonight and, based on continuation of the daily average posting rate of each Forum member, you will be in the top 10 on 8 May 2007 - I will do my best to stay alive until then

At present you have the 3rd highest daily posting average behind Roy and Andy and ahead of me. If we exclude Roy on the basis that he started all this madness and had to generate interest, it is interesting to note that the 2 people in the world that have nothing much to do with their day are both policemen

Derek,
You've been talking to Debbie! She seems to thinK I do nothing all day as well! :)
Do you guys not watch tv?
Most days we have to solve murders within an hour and a half(and that includes the adverts!!)
There's just no respect these days. :D

Alan,

You clearly either have or need a wireless connection. I have seen the cop shows on television and realise that at least 30 minutes of the 90 that you have to solve a murder is spent driving through sunny countryside to get from the murder site to the site where the murderer is to be arrested. With a wireless connection you could get someone else to do the driving and be online at this forum for an extra 30 minutes per week (excluding repeats) plus time during the adverts.

Bit of a bummer if you're on BBC though. Lose out on all the advert breaks.
