I intentionally didn't enter this thread until now because I hold myself personally responsible for chasing away the last female who dared enter the Forum with a rather witty "look out guys, it's a girl  " comment.

Anyway, now I know I am not the only guy here who repels women

Derek ! you've got to be kiding

Yeah, after all, Marci likes Jelly more than XXXXX!

For the uninitiated, XXXXX = peanut butter

Roy,

If you mention XXXXX again we will have to ask Stewart to censor you

Now , now Derek ,
Why would you want to sensor the 23rd letter of the alphabet ?

Sorry, Luc, I think I have had too many kernal based products tonight and it's clouding my judgement :?

What I meant to say is XXXXXX XXXXXX

Incidentally, in the UK X is the 24th letter of the alphabet

Luc must have been drinking port again without the XXXXXX XXXXXX, so there is nothing diluting the alcohol... ;) he can't count to 24! :)

Unless, like in some French that I hear spoken, he is discounting the letter "h" - hockey is pronounced "AWK-ee" and habitat is "AB-e-tah" Then "X" becomes the 23rd letter! :D

Growing up as I did in Minnesota, I must reccomend hockey as the only true manly sport. Even In California we have three national Hockey teams

But seriously Marci, come on back to the fold :!:

I will second Jay's recommendation that Marci come back!!! :)

Also, I spent an evening in a sports bar here in Cupertino the other night while the San Jose Sharks played (I couldn't get tickets) and was impressed by the number of people who cheered openly when the Sharks scored. It wasn't close to the frenzy that breaks out when the Oilers score and I'm in a sports bar at home, but it was better than what I expected! :)

Great idea guys - we have scared the woman half to death by being geeky and now you decide to introduce a discussion on legalised violence involving a few dozen wimps dressed up in body armour whacking each other with sticks and not feeling any pain - great chat up line

I think that next time Roy feels aggreived or irritated on some minor subject, we give him permission (Not that he needs it) to attack this Thread and delete it back to were Marci said Hello!
Then if she innocently comes back, she wont see phrases like 'Cleaning', 'Only Woman', 'Sport',etc, references that show us in such a good light!!!
I've found it funny and entertaining, but shouldn't we break new members in more gently?

Alan,

We didn't break you in gently so why should we treat any other new member differently? I find your suggestion to be sexist :P

Seriously, Marci and all the other port loving women out there are more than welcome to join in the fun on the Forum. All they need is an internet connection, a love of port and a sense of humour....and to have finished the ironing, of course

Derek

Disclaimer 1: I am not sexist, honest!

Disclaimer 2: Anyone who thinks references to cleaning, sport etc is what is keeping women off the Forum is dilusional in the extreme. The simple fact is we are a bunch of childlike (mainly) middle aged men with an unhealthy interest in a particularly geeky subject. If I were a woman, I wouldn't be here either!

Played to your favorite Limbo music, or was it "Duck & Cover?"

Guys ... I'm afraid Marci was a one hit wonder, as she has not even revisited the site in a week.
