The International Law of Port states that if a person guesses that you have a Nacional you must share it with them

Marc,
Anytime you want to meet up to share some Port and/or Douro wines (ok, really anything, LOL) let me know. I've got a few bottles that need some attention 8)

Andy,

Excellent! I also have a few bottles on death row that I'm planning on opening sooner rather later. I'll PM you and we can set up something...

Although I have not made a detailed study, I have noticed the following traits in the numbering system:

1) The system was changed during the bottling of the '70 vintage to include the two letter code at the top and two numbers below the main serial number - most '70 bottlings have this top and tail addition, but some don't.

2) Between '70 and '87, the two digits at the bottom seem to fall between 1 and 31, so this probably indicates the day of the month of bottling.

3) From '88 to '94, the bottom digits became unvaryingly 01. From '95 to '99 they are 02 and from '00 onwards they are 03 - so the fact that the '03's have 03 on them is probably coincidental.

4) The main serial number increments in single digits but periodically jumps by thousands and then resumes - it might be possible to decode this (if there is a code..)

In the gloom of my cellar, my eyes complain if I spend too much time studying seal numbers - so I'll leave it to others to work out the rest..

In yet another way this BB would benefit from official comment from the appropriate authorities.
