For The Love Of Port

You're a brave man to be drinking the '07 Noval as a weekday port - it must be quite tannic. The '97 is more understandable as it is already 17 years old. I've had a bottle of the '00 Noval and though quite primary it was drinking very well, almost too well.

The closest I get to a weekday port are the half bottles of Croft 2004 unfiltered LBV that were being sold in one of the UK supermarkets back in 2009 at about £3 per half bottle. I bought rather a lot of these and have a few still tucked away in off-site storage. They still occasionally crop up for sale in small quantities - presumably as the supermarket finds a case lurking in a corner of their warehouse somewhere.

These have become really tasty and enjoyable. Still fruity and with some soft tannins but also having developed some of those lovely date and brown sugar tones that middle-years bring to a port.

I'm not sure what I'll replace these with as my weekday port when these run out. Graham Crusted 1998 / 2002 @ £10 seems to be the popular choice for purchase from supermarkets at the moment by my fellow UK port lovers for consumption as a weekday port.

I've pulled a case of 1997 Niepoort VP (.375ml bottles) from long term storage due to the VA issues. Not a cheap weekday drink but with a case of it and VA issues it has now been assigned as my weekday Port.

My weekday port is Graham's The Tawny, quality for a good price.

While this may sound silly if not pompous, it is not meant to be a brag; but based on the Ports that I've had in 2015 with regularity and having bottles around for sipping. Each of these two, I've opened five or six of since the turn of the year:

30 year old Tawny by S. Leonardo and 1976 Krohn Colheita. I need to buy every day Ports at Costco at some point, but being lazy ... I just keep going back for more of these two.
