I opened a 1968 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Riserva della Castellana Gia Opera Pia last fall. It ranked last in a lineup of about eight similarly aged bottles. I have another bottle of the same that hopefully will show better, but I'm not particularly optimistic.

A week ago, while in LA for a Taylor's VP event, a friend opened an old and odd bottle of 1958 Quarles Harris Vintage Port. The ullage and bottle itself did not give me a lot of confidence that what would be forthcoming, would be all that pleasant. Dead wrong!

While nothing that I'd go out of my way to purchase today, FWIW, I can say it was the best pre-1994 bottle of Quarles Harris VP that I've ever tasted. [d_training.gif]

Photo evidence on the For The Love Of Port  Facebook page.
