These type of threads are always a fun read for me. I love to see what people rank, for whatever reason, their top wines consumed each year. For me it was the 1834 Barbeito Malvasia.

While there was quite a good stock of nice Madeira's I don't think any of them surpased my earlier favorite. But one did come quite close.

"Favorite" for me when applied to Madeira is a relative term, or at least it was until the 2009 Port Gala. I had tried a couple of very nice Madeiras before then, but they had been far too dry for my taste so I didn't really like them.

The 1905 D'Oliveiras Terrantez at the Port Gala, though, was quite nice. It's probably still not something that I'd buy for my own consumption since I could get more enjoyment out of an equally expensive bottle of Port, but I did very much enjoy it and would like to some day try some of the others that people have mentioned.

(And yes, technically that's not a 2008 Madeira for me, but I don't drink them very often.)
