To be honest, though, I don't believe they, or even Jack Aubrey influenced my port drinking all that much.

Conan the Barbarian was developed by Robert Howard in the 1930's in a series of short stories. Some of his early stories were actually not bad and pretty serious literature. It was only later that he became a comic book charicter.
