I have put my whole port inventory onto Cellartracker and think it is excellent. Yes it takes an hour or so but it is worth it.
The only annoying point is just before I was aware of this I purchased a cellarbook at vast expense which is now redundent!!

I look forward to when you can change the base currency to £ Sterling!

You can. Click MY ACCOUNT at the upper right. Then where it says "Choose locale" pick the "English (British)" choice.

Are you kidding? There are only 3 things CellarTracker can NOT do:

a. Get you to work on time
b. Change diapers
c. Convince your boss to let you have an extra week of vacation

I managed to enter a few bottles of port last night. I have to say , it was not easy. All of the Taylor 92 is on it and some of the Graham's.
What is hard for me is getting back and forth form the entered bottles to the page to add more bottles.

Richard, when you are on the wine drilldown page, you can pretty easily add wine for all of the vintages from that producer. Look to the left to the list of vintages, or near the lower left is a link to CREATE NEW WINE (under a FROM THIS PRODUCER heading). Or if you are entering from an entirely new producer, at the upper left under COMMON TASKS (all wines) is the ADD NEW WINE link.

Also, for your Taylor, I saw that you entered in multiple bottle sizes. After entering each chunk of sizes just click the UPDATE button instead of UPDATE AND DONE or just pressing enter, and then you will stay on the inventory editing screen for that wine.

Eric, I am somebody! :shock:
I have entered my 229 bottles of port. If there was one surprise, it was that neither the 92 Nierpoort nor Quinto da Passadouro were on the data base.
Roy may know this history. This was one of our very early, circa 1994/95 purchases from The Rare Wine Company.
Also, some of the values seem "off". I have had to pay a lot more for 750's of 92 Taylor than the value listed.
Most of the values seemed about right , but some .....well I would like to buy some of them at those prices.

On to the champagne and bourdeaux!!

I also contributed again.

I would say I am up and crawling on CT, not running!
I was a little surprised and hope Roy will weigh in on the fact that there was no listing for Nierpoort nor Q da Passadouro 92's on CT.
I am also surprised that much of my champagne collection has to be entered as a new wine.

Otherwise, the bourdeaux was mostly there as was was the port. It will take some adjustment.

Niepoort 92 is in the Cellar Tracker, you're just spelling it with an "R" that doesn't belong... There's also an entry for the 92 Passadouro but its not listed as a fortified wine so double check. This being said, maybe I'm only seeing them now because you entered them :-)

Saw your TN on the Taylors 1983 on CT today. Good note and I agree with it being a bit too thin and short on the finish, and please feel free to post here for others.

Actually, it is pretty easy to copy & paste TN's and post them to any UBB enabled bulletin board. On CellarTracker you:
  • Click the TASTING NOTES link at the top.
  • At the upper left click on the link to MY UNPOSTED NOTES
  • Click the checkboxes next to any note(s) you want to publish.
  • Click PUBLISH TASTING NOTES at the top.
  • Choose the UBBCode™ Markup option and click PUBLISH TASTING NOTES.
  • Now copy the contents of the textbox and then paste it into a reply over here.
It looks like this:
  • 2000 Château Les Gravières - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru (1/17/2006)
    Consumed across two days, this never really did much. Day one was a nice enough Merlot, good minerality, not much fruit or complexity. On day 2 this was more astringent and less interesting. A disappointing bottle. (80 pts.)

To follow up almost 1500 bottles are now listed on CT under My Cellar. It is a great program.
It is like deciding to go to law school or take up tennis, you don't just fill out the ap in 5 minutes and you don't hit aces and develop killer ground strokes in one lesson.
Eric is one of those geniuses who has developed the premiere program of its kind. It is very sophisticated and I am just starting to get used to it.
It took some 17 years to develop my collection so it should take some time to enter the data.
I rest more comfortably knowing what I have and having an off premise data base in case I ever had to prove what was in there to an insurance company.
It is much better knowing how many bottles of what category and from what vintage are there at a click of the mouse.

Richard, I am very glad it is working out for you! Still, I wish it has been easier from the start...

By the way, "genius" is a very strong word, too strong in face. I much prefer "clever" or "nifty", and more importantly my wife says it goes to my head... :wink:
