A bottle of Taylor 1963 that had to be opened when the neck sheared away from the shoulders as I was pulling it out of the rack!

I wish it was always as good as this weekend, but sadly most of my drinking is much more ordinary.

A long weekend of Port and Madeira ahead. Tonight's kick off was my bottle of 1963 Quinta do Noval Nacional. It was a very pleasant VP that was a fun way to start the debauchery that will ensue for the next 72 hours. This will certainly be one of the youngsters, as it is definitely the youngest of four bottles I brought with me.

The 1972 Dow was quite nice. Lots of ripe fruit on the nose (which I sensed was beginning to dry out) and a number of delicate flavors on the palate. Although I must say that the finish was a bit on the short side. Clearly this was fully mature without any possibility of future improvement. I'd say that this wine might have another 5 years ahead of it. Without a doubt this is the finest '72 that I've had to date.

Last night was fun too. We began with an old Bdx and a great older bottle of Cristal.

Moving on to Ports:

1924 Taylor VP
1962 Malvedos VP
1963 Fonseca VP
1966 Dow VP

Then came the Madeiras going back in time to 1795. What a weekend.
