Premier Cru put out an email special that had some at 40% off. So yeah, it was a crazy sale and I'm sure they didn't last long.

Made a mistake this week - I went to an auction..

Can't let nice bottles pass y'know...

Bought:

A very old unknown half bottle, three part moulded, probably pre WW1
Smith Woodhouse '27
Graham '35 (half btl)
Tuke Holdsworth '47
and a pristine half case of BBR own (Taylor) '63

(plus a few other btls for other people)

The SW27 was very messy and probably assumed by other buyers to be a serious leaker, but the level was a high VTS and the cork looked sound, so I took a punt that it had been leaked on by another bottle.

Now rinsed and laid down, it looks entirely sound - two hundred quid well spent I think..

Follow-up sale:

6 x 1964 Krohn Colheita Branco ($60)

Premier Cru has been having these flash sales over the last couple of weeks. They've now simply updated their main page, so if you like Krohn Ports go check them out. The "new" prices aren't quite as insanely good as the flash sales, but they're still pretty amazing. The 1976 Krohn Colheita is $70 now instead of $60 during the flash sale, for example. But frankly it's worth the $99 regular price!

Looking = buying. I've learned to ignore certain emails...well until the Krohn's deals came along [help.gif]

2006 Gilberts LBV (500ml Bottle).
Several Grahams Six Grapes in 187ml Bottles.....rather fun to have small, informal bottles for when alone and just want a taste.

2008 Quinta di Noval (unfiltered)

Got both to try now. I am looking for a good deal that can be laid down and make a name de drinker down the road.

I typically like the Warre's LBV's. Very consistently good in my opinion.

He warre's was not bad. I did notice a purple stain on top of the cork under the foil. I was not sure if this was from leakage or the bottle being over heated. The cork fell apart when I tried to remove it and was completely dry. I did not see any streaking in the cork that would make me think it spent a lot of time in heat.

The flavor was still very fruity and tight. I did taste a bit of nuttyness on the finish. It may turn out to be very good down the road. I bough this at a local store and hey had ordered it in for me. My assumption was that as a corked wine not a T top it would be stored on its side but as dry and brittle as the cork was I would assume the warehouse had stored it standing up.

Hard to say on the standing up part. A cork can also dry out like that even on it's side. I suspect it was in a very non-humid environment for a long time, or a bad cork. Most likely the previous.

Bottling lines sometimes get messy - probably a splash of port that found its way onto the top of the cork during bottling..

You are evil. I ordered 2x 1968 Krohn Colheita from a place I don't even like these days, with this note:
Ship these in the fall when you have my 6x 2011 Dow Vintage Port that I paid for with my order from 1/27/2014, order# 0000xxxxxx, which I'm still waiting for. I might have ordered more, but I don't want to tie up $500 for another two years.
