We here in L.A. had a "storm" yesterday. By that I mean we got a little rain and some wind, which for the rest of the world wouldn't even be a news item. But this is Los Angeles we're talking about. We could have a big earthquake and people are like "Yeah, whatever" and not bat an eyelash. Rain however is a whole different ballgame....It caused all kinds chaos in the land of sunshine. Five hours after the power went out at my house, going off just as I was just getting ready to do a weeks worth of laundry for work this morning - go figure, it started getting dark and with no one from the power company having been sent to our area to fix the issue yet and it getting darker by the minute I figured I needed to find some candles and hunker down with some Port to fight off the chill of a cold 59 degree house that I couldn't heat because the gas heater needs electricity. A 1960 Ferreira VP that had started to seep did the trick to fight off that chill. I woke up this morning to a cold house, scrounging for clean work clothes, but the lights finally worked again. Whew, glad that storm is passed.

The Port was lovely by the way...and in case you don't want to read all that, which you probably already did, I opened a 1960 Ferreira VP

Ummm, that's what temperature my furnace heats to at night. So at your "chill of a cold," my furnace wouldn't even turn on.

But I'm glad the Port was good.

Hah! Things are a little different here

While playing the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game with friends last night, I threw open an Offley 10 yro Tawny and we were all impressed with how good it was. Probably around 90 points. I think one of my friends was at 91. The flavors were semi-complex and pleasing. Everyone said that it was a nice port to just sit around and drink. I opened the bottle figuring it would be open for a few weeks as I polished it off. We had shared 2 other bottles of red wine earlier in the night, so I was shocked when we finished the 750ml bottle in less than 2 hours.

1997 Souza VP. Nothing special, but the price was right and wanted to try out my new cork screw.

Croft 1970 - I pulled a case out of storage and this one was a mid-shoulder fill. Still very tasty though.

Had quite some spirits on the nose that it needed to get rid off initially, but it is starting to grow a little on me here later on. Still not better than the Kopke nor Krohn.

my friend and i got to my Dow's 2008 LBV and Feuerheerd Reserve Ruby.

i liked the Dow's more than i expected to considering i disliked their Reserve Tawny and Reserve Ruby.

the Feuerheerd was better than i remembered it from a year ago.

i would drink them both again were they offered but i wouldn't buy either.

i'll post my tasting notes soon!

In 1972.
Many of Niepoorts older Colheitas where bottled in the 1970s. Here talking about their 1900,1908,1912,1927,1934,1935 and the 1937.

(And again, some has been recent bottled, But they are really difficult to find). I have seen both the 1935 and the 1937 put to bottle in 1995.
